Retreat

The men of my parish just returned from retreat at Camp Crucis.
Well, I wanted to post the most impressive thing I encountered from the material. We dabbled in Dietrich Bonhoeffer's The Cost of Discipleship. On page 44 he begins,

Cheap grace is...

• the preaching of forgiveness without requiring repentance
• baptism without church discipline
• communion without confession
• absolution without personal confession
• grace without discipleship
• grace without the cross
• grace without Jesus Christ, living and incarnate

Costly grace is...

• the treasure hidden in the field
• the pearl of great price
• the kingly rule of Christ
• the call of Jesus Christ
• the sanctuary of God
